Flamenco dancer Erika Alajärvi

started her dancing career with studies in modern dance and jazz ballet. At the age of 19 she started to study flamenco first in Helsinki, Finland, then peridiocally in Centro de Arte Flamenco y Danza Espańola Amor de Dios in Madrid and some other flamencoschools in Sevilla, Spain. She has studied with many recocnized maestros like Manuel Reyes, Carmela Greco, Maria Magdalena, Andrés Marín, Belén Maya, Rafaela Carrasco, Israel Galván, ...

Since 1995 she has been working as a flamenco teacher and a dancer. In 1998 she was recocnized as a pedagogue of flamenco by The Union of Finnish Dance Artists. Her chreographies and works has been presented in theaters and festivals of Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, San Petersburg and Moscu.

In 2001 she founded the dance company Canela with Anna Palmio and Annatuuli Saine. They performed at various flamenco and dance festivals in Finland, Sweden and Russia presenting four choreographies by four representative choreographers of the new flamenco: Belén Maya, Israel Galván, Rafaela Carrasco and Andrés Marín. In 2008 Canela collaborated with three well-known Finnish modern dance choreographers: Alpo Aaltokoski Jyrki Karttunen and Arja Raatikainen. The result was the show Dance Trilogy, consisting of three solo dances.

Her own works are Al Golpe (1999), ˇAnda y toma! (2001), Solo, a dos, pa tres (2002), Siete Canciones (2004), Heijastuksia (2006), memento (2009), Siento (2009), ˇAdiós Carmen! (2010), En medio de las Flores (2010) and Lonh (2011), a fusion of contemporary music by Kaija Saariaho and flamencodance.
